Our Story

In 2014, Sunny Day Bakery owner, Sarah, was advised to go gluten-free by her doctor to help alleviate symptoms of an autoimmune disease. As an avid baker, this news was devastating to her. At the time of the diagnosis, she thought her life was over. Rather than sulking over the foods she would miss, she took this as a personal challenge to learn how to make all her favorite things gluten-free; both sweet and savory. In doing so, she realized that baking was both a therapeutic outlet for her and a passion.

Fast forward to the summer of 2020, Sarah quit her advertising job in New York City and began working in a bakery in her hometown on Cape Cod, MA. After her first day, she knew this was her passion and wanted to make it her career. After moving back to New York City in 2021, and gaining experience at a local GF bakery, she decided to take the leap of faith and start her own business. In the summer of 2022, Sunny Day Bakery was born.

Why bagels?

You’re probably asking yourself- “with all the baked goods available, why bagels?" Well, one morning Sarah and her fiance ordered bagels for breakfast. In the bagel capital of the world, expectations were high. Her fiance’s bagel was the size of her face and was very fluffy. In stark contrast, Sarah’s gluten-free bagel was small, dense, and could’ve been mistaken for a hockey puck.

Then and there, she knew exactly what she wanted to bake at Sunny Day Bakery. It is her mission to make gluten-free bagels that not only look great but also taste great and could be described as “fluffy”, “crisp” and “doughy”. After a full summer of perfecting her recipe, Sarah finally made the perfect bagel and she can’t wait to share it with you!
